Le French Twins

I recently found these two nightstands on Craig's list for cheap-cheap.  I am having a lot of luck scoring with "princess" style furniture for cheap.  I knew these would make a perfect accompaniment to "Monsieur High Boy".  However, unlike Monsieur who was solid wood and has a lovely Walnut Stained top, these twins were not as fortunate to get all Monsieur's good pedigree.  So this is what I had to work with:
That isn't a nice unstained wood you are looking at, that is MDF.  It actually had a lovely layer of carboard veeneer wood stain that I very expertly peeled off.  It was too painful to look at.

I wanted to have the same look as Monsieur, so I used my faux wood grain trick with layers of glaze and paint.  I promise, video tutorial on this coming soon.  It can be done in multiple colors and finishes, and such a great trick to use when you want a stained wood look but you are working with less than par furniture.

I used ASCP in Old White for the base, spray painted the pulls, then lightly distressed with Steel Wool, lightly distressed the edges, then added a generous helping of my home made glaze.  Heavy on the Glaze medium, light on the Tobacco Brown.  I wanted to just achieve a "warm" look and not change the color too much.

Here are the twins, finished and oh so proud of their new look.

These guys headed down today to Paris Flea Market to hopefully be sold along with Monsieur High Boy.
