Perhaps you have seen me or my siblings? Maybe I live in your home? School of Broyhill, light honey Pine, good furniture, purchased early 90's. If so, I need a Redoux, STAT!
I found this piece on Craigslist for a SONG! Lot's of people apparently passed it over because of the lovely FAUX Mission style, but I saw beyond this and gave it new life.
First, I pulled off the "faux" mouldings. Did you know you can pull off most moulding with a small chisel and mallet? Just wear your safety glasses, and have some Spackle on hand to fill the unsightly nail holes.
Next, I used a "Rub on Stain" in Black, I knew this wasn't going to be the top coat, so I wasn't too particular about how evenly it was applied.
For my top coats, I used a "free to me" paint from a fab client, whose husband is a contractor. His latest gig was with "Google".
He had a ton of leftover paint, and was so generous, he passed it on to MOI!
I dry brushed the Red on the top, then sanded where I thought it was too heavy and distressed the edges. I then applied Antique Wax in Dark Oak on the areas where I thought Mr. Broyhill, "Honey Pine" was making a comeback.
I know it looks kind of funky in the middle there, but after I messed with it for a while, I decided to leave it as a "marque de beauté: from its past.
For "Le Grand Finale", I stenciled on the new owner's name, so the dresser will no longer be confused as to what it's purpose now is.
Some cool hardware helped this new guy come to feel right at home in his new space.
Now he is hanging out with the uber cool Guitar crowd and Timmy (Lincecum) that is. :) Who at our house, is quite cool.
