Ohhhhhh Spray Can You See?

The work process has SLOWWWWED down here considerably.  With three kids out of school, three kids still wanting to do three different activities, and three kids not used to being home all at the same time......It is the perfect recipe for work stoppage.

I am hoping next week to get a paintbrush in hand again when one child is away at camp, we will see...... For now, I can still manage a little thrifting with kids and Spray painting in the wee hours of the morning.  Here are my latest finds:

We were in desperate need of a cookie jar (well, I shouldn't say need, no one "needs" a cookie jar), but we have been without one for at least a year now, after I broke the lid off the fabulously kitschy one "suffering husband" found for me on Ebay in a Vintage Cherry Theme (I am a cherryaholic).  I was so devastated when it broke, I glued it back together several times, until I had to admit, it was a hopeless cause.

I found this beauty for only $5.  Why anyone would think a dog on a cookie jar sounded appealing, unless of course, the cookies were for the dog, but then why didn't it say "dog treats"?

I have been on the hunt for a good cookie jar ever since, but I have yet to find one that "speaks" to me.  So, I just made my own:
I sprayed it out in Black Chalkboard Paint, then used a Paint Pen to write the French version of cookies.  "Little Breads".   I thought we could write on the jar then what kind of cookie was inside.  (I also thought I would count the cookies, then put a tally mark on the jar every time one evaporated, but I can't write that fast)

Next up, you know your local Thrift Store has Shelves brimming with this type of stuff.  Old lady Glass/Chrystal looking things that probably held candy or something lady like in their former life.

Well, now it holds Flowers, after a nice coating of Hot Pink Spray Paint, and then a light sand with Steel Wool, I love the "vintagey" look it has now.  (Is Vintagey a real adjective, if not, it should be, hmmm, care to weigh in Viv? Are you correcting my grammar?)

My last find, again, glass, tons of it at any given thrift store:

Do you love Mercury Glass?  I do too, but not the delicacy of it, and the expense of it.  This idea came from Maryanne at Domestically Speaking

A tip I have used often, lightly mist a glass object with a water bottle, then use Silver Spray paint to mimic the look of Mercury Glass.  The bubbles actually dry in the paint.  A lighter hand than usual with the Silver Spray Paint is probably best, I tend to go overboard sometimes.  Since I wanted a really worn look of Mercury Glass, I used some more steel wool to lightly rub off the paint.  I love the finished look.

It is finally SUMMER here and my flowers are blooming like crazy.  And the multicolored Hydrangeas all came from my yard.  I am happy Faux French Girl.

au revoir -GTC

  1. All of your projects are great! I just bought a pretty pink spray paint to use on glass I'll bet its the same one. Love that pink,

  2. These are beautiful! If it weren't raining here today I would be inspired to start spraying everything in sight. I like your French "little breads". They sound so much healthier with that name.
