Fillet of Sole
That is what I could have told my kids we were having for dinner, then watched their amazement as they opened the oven door to see what it looked like and they saw this!
You see, my son has a lovely habit of spending as much time in the mud immediately after a good hard rain. He is not content to ruin just one pair, but must share the love with as many sneakers as he owns. Last week's project included digging a very large hole in a remote part of my back yard. Now it is covered in a tarp, due to construction delays (rain......)
I think he is hoping to duplicate this hole:
Needles to say, the sneakers were a mess. After the mud dried, I scraped off as much as I could, then threw them in the washer. They came out sparkling clean. Now how to dry them? I used to have one of those racks that fit snugly in the drier so you can dry sweaters and shoes, it has gone AWOL somewhere in the last few years. (Maybe I should check that hole)
The other solution offered by Mr. Digger was to "Duct Tape" shut the dryer, so the shoes don't kick the door open. I had a better idea.
Set your oven to the lowest setting. Mine goes to 170 degrees. I put the sneakers in sole down to start with, but when the air started to smell like Payless Shoes (as one of my kids noted), I flipped them over. It took about two hours on this low temp to dry, but when they came out, they were warm and toasty and almost as good as new.
I should have told my kids we were having "Fillet of Sole, laced with Tongue" for dinner........(I can hear the groans on that bad joke from here).

Great tip. Luckily I live in a very sunny state. I set our shoes outside and they are dry in about an hour. Even during the winter (most days at least.) Would love for you to stop by and link up to More the Merrier Monday.
