Farm Table Redoux - Part One

Thank you so much to everyone who participated in the beautiful giveaway from Angela at   Knick of Time this past weekend.  We will be announcing the winner tomorrow, so stay tuned!!!

"soi la promotion" (Self promotion time).....My dresser turned bookshelf was quite popular, and hopefully inspired many of you to try something similar.   Be sure to check out Part Deux if you would like to learn how to make one.

It was recently featured at these, very lovely blogs:

On with the Post!

We have all seen these tables, maybe you even have one in your home?

(This is actually another table I have "Redoux'ed" (I know this is not a word)

I picked up a similar table on Craigslist for free, with the intention of dressing it up.  Well......6 months later it was still in Furniture Purgatory (the side of my yard).  It had paid dearly from the elements.  The top was rotten, the veneer was peeling off all the sides, and let's just say, it wasn't stellar to begin with.

I have been wanting to create a work table in my office, and had the idea to use the Farm Table with a new top.  I removed the legs and saved the hardware.  Tossed the top and sides, and started over.  Cut new side pieces to fit my space, reattached the legs and cut and attached a new top.

(I will go over all of this in detail tomorrow in Part Deux)

The legs were originally white, but I wanted them to have a rustic look, so I painted the legs and the sides in one coat ASCP, "Graphite".
I also added Casters so I could move the table around as needed

I used MDF for my top, sanded the edges, primed with two coats, sanded again, then used one coat of ASCP "Coco". I used several layers of glaze and colorant, sealed it with two coats of Polycrylic and topped the whole thing off with wax.  It is is hard as nails now, and you would never know that is MDF under that paint.

I am so thrilled to have a place to use my sewing machine, do a craft, or just spread my projects out, besides my kitchen table.  (I imagine suffering husband is happy too).

Stay tuned tomorrow for the "How To" on this project, and I will be announcing the WINNER of our Knick of Time Giveaway.

  1. It looks great. All perfectly weathered and vintage-y with the paint treatment. Love the Coco! I have a big farm table and my dinning room table... both covered in junque' as I type. he he. Guess I better go address that ;) Happy Monday.
