When you hear the word "free" as in "furniture" does your heart start racing??? Do you get that adrenaline buzz thing going?? I know I am not the only one who LOVES free to me stuff.
This recently came to me FREE from a client and friend:
Front
Back
It was, in it's past life, a curio cabinet, a plant stand, and most recently, an eyesore....until I was called upon to take it away.
I have some ideas for it, it has wiring for lights in both sections. The glass has to go, I am going to probably divide it into two parts (top and bottom), and maybe replacing it with small wire chicken wire, or some other cool mesh wire.
I was thinking maybe something sort of "morrocanized", like a lamp?
This might be a stretch of imagination....but I would love to hear your ideas. There has to be another life left in this thing that has nothing to do with displaying collectibles.
I welcome any and all ideas!

Make a nice Parrot cage!
ReplyDeleteBirdcages with plants are all the rage here. What about ivy on the outside? Or,if you are already dividing it, lay it on its side and look at it a different way.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you are going to do! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining my Would You Buy It! Love the cabinet and can't wait to see what you do with it. Chicken wire would be cool!

I LOVE free stuff! And I love that you want to make it into something else. I could definitely see it as a couple of lanterns. No other ideas here...can't wait to see what you do with it.

Ooooh, Karen, nice freebie!
ReplyDeleteMe? I'd shabby chic it up, cover it in garden wire,
plant a bougainvillea or climbing rose inside and let it grow up the wire!
AND, I would find something beautiful to cap it! Like my jumbo lantern ends OR a weathervane!
But that's just my imagination!

Oooh my mother has one of these so I'd really love to see what you do with it! Sprinkle some of your furniture fairy dust on it - I know you can make it awesome!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find! So many possibilities. :-) I love the idea of removing the glass and adding the chicken wire or even leaving it open. Can't wait to see what you end up doing!

I cannot wait to see what you do...I see these all the time at the goodwill...s please for the love of old curio cabinets everywhere show us your awesomeness and then I can make something of these buggers too!
ReplyDeleteWhat about making a cool table top and still do the lighting idea but use it outdoors? I might even look for some old windows to seam together for the top so the light would shine through.
ReplyDeleteOr fill it in with a mix of chirstmas lights and clear christmas balls and then I get stuck but you will figure something out. You always DOUX :-)

ha! my husband and i still crack up about a neighbor's china cabinet that was filled with beanie babies!!
ReplyDeletei'm plum outta ideas for use... but i think it might want to be a high-gloss super bright color to make up for it's quiet-stuck-in-a-corner former life.
or not!!
