Le Sanity Break

Last week "Suffering Husband" and I took a little "Sanity Break".

I am all for vacationing with my children, but as someone once said, "if you take your children, it is not a vacation, it is a "trip"........This was most definitely a vacation.

We only had about 48 hours, but we took ourselves up to nearby Lake Tahoe and skied at one of our
favorite resorts.  Northstar at Tahoe.

As a kid, I was fortunate enough to ski here often with my family.  This view is still there and is one of my favorite views in the world
We always stay in the eclectic and historical town of Truckee.  Truckee is my most favorite little city in California.  It definitely has a soul and a history unique only to Truckee.  My husband (doesn't believe in reincarnation), but truly believes he just may have lived in Truckee in his past life.  Mr. Red (our son) has great plans that this is where he will spend his adult life working as a Fish and Game Warden.  (He is unique in this career pursuit).
This is a view of the beautiful Truckee river and one of my future homes (ha ha)

If you are not in the habit of getting away with your significant other at least once a year (if you have children), then stop what you are doing right now and call that sitter, grandma, etc. and start planning.

I truly believe that even 24 hours alone with the love of your life is so important to keeping that bond between you strong.  A chance to just be alone together, with uninterrupted conversations, and enjoying a vacation that is just for the two of you.

Suffering Husband is pondering his soon to be served meal and that he is sitting where Guy Fierri once sat.

In honor of Valentines Day, give yourself and your love 24 hours alone together.  Even if you just go to a nearby city and play tourist for 24 hours.  Your relationship will thank you for it.

  1. Oooh, I've always wanted to go to Tahoe! Someday. And mini "couple" vacations is a wonderful idea. We have had a few, but need to think about it again soon.

  4. Oh so fun!!!! Yes, you are so right- it is SO important to get away with the spouse. We are going to Mexico for our 20th anniversary this year :) I am so excited!!
We once did a rafting trip down the Truckee river when I was about 13. Loved it. Haven't been skiing in years, but I would be loving that run too. Gorgeous. Glad you got some time away together!
