I had the pleasure of recently completing a project for a very special client. My son's Kindergarten teacher. He is in 5th grade now, but over the years, I have had the privilege to complete several projects for this teacher who holds such a special place in my heart. My little red headed friend always had a mind of his own, and it was with HUGE trepidation that I sent him off to Kindergarten. Mrs. James was the most perfect teacher for his introduction into school. Always patient, made each day fun and exciting to learn, and most of all, he learned how to work in a classroom. Skills that prepared him for the rest of his elementary school days, (which for he and his twin sister will be ending soon .....)
On with the story.....
Have you seen these at garage sales and passed them by because they were missing something?
I purchased this piece a couple of years ago at a garage sale for just a few dollars. I knew it had potential, but I just couldn't figure out how I wanted to utilize it. It lived in various places in my home, pretty much in this condition, until it was relegated to the dark corner of the furniture storage room.....
About a month ago, I received a call from Mrs. James. She was looking for a tall, narrow storage piece that she could place in her kitchen, with a shelf for cook books and storage for her children's school/art supplies.
ZUT ALORS!!
I knew just what to do, after measuring and making sure it would fit, we both agreed this was the perfect piece.
I knocked out the top shelf supports.
Built a new shelf insert.
Painted the whole thing black to coordinate with other furniture I have done for her, and VOILA!! We have a new creation!!
I also made a chalkboard that will go on the other side of the wall. Can't wait to see it in Mrs. James's kitchen!
I am so grateful for the amazing teachers my children have had, some are more special than others, but a chance to do something for a teacher who has made my home more beautiful by teaching one of my children is a true gift to me.
WONDERING HOW TO BUILD THIS YOURSELF? STAY TUNED FOR PART DEUX TOMORROW.
