Make cute cardholders Part Deux. Use your frames!

  Strictly Homemade Tuesday

We all have a lot of these laying around:

There are tons of great ways to repurpose them.  One of my favorites is to make them into Christmas Card or Photo holders.

What you will need:
Old frame
If the cardboard or backing is missing in frame, you will need foam core board
Box Cutter (for foam core)
Measuring Tape
Lots of Ribbon of choice
Hot Glue Gun, or finishing nails, (depending on thickness of frame, if it is very thin like mine, then you don't want nails poking through it)
Clothes Pins (sprayed to coordinate with ribbon)
Decorative Paper
Glue Stick
Carbon Paper (if you are tracing words)
Lettering for tracing (I used Word Art in MS Word)
Either thick paint for lettering, or paint pens
Sharpie (optional for lettering)

Start with frame of choice, I liked this thin long one, it was originally gold, I sprayed it black, then lightly distressed it.

I didn't have the original cardboard backing, so I traced it out on a piece of foam core board, then cut it to size with a box cutter:

I selected a piece of scrap book paper for the front.  I like the look of this dictionary page, and by carefully cutting and piecing the words back together, it is hard to tell where I cut it to fit.  (The frame is about 15 inches long, longer than my 12 inch paper).  I used a regular Glue Stick to adhere the paper.  This way I could move it a bit while I sized it.

I printed out the words I wanted, used Tracing Paper,  taped it down to my board, then taped the words to the tracing paper:

After I traced it, I used a Gold Paint Pen, then outlined the letters in a Black Sharpie so the words would "pop":

I placed the foam into the frame, flipped it over, and cut my ribbons to the length I wanted:

I used a Glue Gun to adhere the Ribbon and used a small piece of a narrow ribbon to make the hanging loop:

All set to hang up now, I even got my first Christmas Card today! (not shown as family may not want their photo pasted all over the Internet...)
