This is a rerun. I noticed some of my pictures went AWOL on previous posts. Sorry if you have already seen this.....
Do you have any of these Chairs in your home? They were mass produced circa 1975.

I happened to have a nice stash myself. Originally purchased from various thrift stores, given to me by moving neighbors, and just plain showed up on my door step. Over the years, they have served us well, originally they were my kitchen chairs, way back when I was getting started in life. Later, with multiple children, they morphed into Pink Chairs for Play dates, Blue Chairs for changing Decor and White Chairs (because I didn't know what other color to paint them). Fast forward 7 years. They have lived for a while now on the side of my house. This is the area where furniture can go to die, if left neglected.
Sometimes Furniture neglect can just hasten things along that you wanted to happen anyhow, like wood falling apart, paint peeling, well, you get the picture.
Yeah, it ain't pretty.
Although I know my long suffering husband would have loved to have seen the sad chairs find a new home at the dump years ago, I held onto them. I knew they still had another life to live.
Hey, if someone can do this to an old school bus and some plywood, then certainly I could do something with those little chairs:
We were in need of more seating for our patio, and I just hate the thought of buying furniture, when I have so much of it on hand, ie (junk on the side yard). I took the chairs, and began by chopping off the backs. They looked like little beheaded things:
I then spackled, sanded, spackled, sanded, spackled, sanded,......you get the picture.
I also reinforced the under side of the chairs, lest any large boned person sit on them and they come cracking apart under the unsuspecting visitor.
After I was satisfied they were paint worthy, I whipped out the Spray paint. I chose "Paprika" from Rustoleum, it has more of an orangey color to the Red and coordinates with the furniture (junk) I have going on out there already.
And now, they are ready for "le souper dans l'air frais"!
good move lady! these are way better as stools.....and I love the red!

Really miss having a stack of ugly chairs in the side yard. Thanks for the upgrades.
ReplyDeleteLove the stools... but more than anything that fact that you have a stack of dead-ish and mouldering furniture makes me happy.. mine is in the basement waiting to reborn like the phoenix from the fire..... at least that is what I tell my husband each time a new beraggled piece follows me home!

Brilliant! Never woulda thunk of it myself. :)
ReplyDeleteI just pinned your "chools" on Pinterest as my new find of the day and it's getting repined like crazy, just thought you would like to know. I was attracted to your plank topped table as I am in the process of making one and wondering what to use for the top, was thinking zinc but I want to get this project done very soon and I don't have a zinc source. Anyways love the planks, it's exactly what I am looking for. Pondering "chools" and then it hit me to go back to your site and check it out...amazing idea and I will do the same, love it love it love it!!! Just finishing up a kitchen remodel and can't wait to do the FUN stuff!
