Le vieux canapé devient le nouveau trésor!!!
I did a trade with a fantastic client, local photographer Dana Moran Photography to to reupholster this Settee. Dana found this gem at an estate sale for a bargain and in return, I will get some very chic family photos taken! Here we are before, worn green, tired, but the details are fantastic, see the ruffled edge? The Tufting? Cute legs too!
I started by removing all the fabric, and staples, which was no small feat! Once I had everything removed, it looked a little bare!
We decided to go with an indoor/outdoor fabric so this piece will hold up to little feet and sometimes the possibility of being taken outdoors for creative photo shoots.
I used the existing pieces as a template for our new fabric, cut to size,. Used a VERY long upholstery needle for the tufting (A must if you are going to do this),
and began stapling away.
I really liked the ruffle detail the original had along the edge, so I duplicated it with the cream fabric. Just ironed it in place, (kind of eyeballed the measurement), then sewed the edges to hold the pleats.
This is where it went:
Added Black Trim, Black wax to dress up the old worn out legs, and Voila, we have a new dress on!

See, you truly can put a new dress on an old figure and manage to look
si très élégant
oh wow!!!! ooh la la is right!

ReplyDeleteC'est tres belle. Je t'aime le jolie retour!
ReplyDeleteI can't seem to get enough of that print right now. It is creeping into every room of my house. I would love to find a similar sette for my dining room.
Karen...That settee is so awsome - I want one! Absolutely beautiful. Love the way you did the black and white theme. I have to try doing over my own upholstery. I always send it out. But some pieces look like I can do them - you've inspired me. Long upholstery needles scare me a bit though!! Thanks for the inspiration! Linda
ReplyDeleteLove a girl that can tackle upholstery. Looks great! I appreciate your hard work on the piece because I upholstered a couple of pieces. Hope your lovin' that beauty!
