My client got this desk from a garage sale for about $10. She already owned the chair, but wanted them both crisp white to match the new decor for her daughter's room. Someone had a lot of fun coloring the top of the desk and adding a significant amount of scotch tape to liven up the texture of this poor desk. Not to worry, a little TSP, a little sanding, and a really good primer can erase some of the most beautiful pieces of Graffiti, I mean free-flowing expressions.
The previous owner had a thing for colors! Nail polish too!
Ahhhh, all better now. Desk is crisp, clean and white and ready for study with no colorful distractions or messages from owners past, written in nail polish code....
White is such a refreshing and uplifting choice for children's furniture
If you want to punch up the fun factor a bit, mixing black and white is one of my favorite themes for children's furniture, here are a couple of my favorites:
An old brown secretary was given a chic new look with Black and White and a huge Graphic Butterfly, decoupaged to the top fold down desk.
A plain pine children's set was given a completely new look with Black and White Cabbage Roses and a whimsical striping
Now that the calendar says post Memorial Day, go ahead and show off your Whites!

Love that desk! I know there are still a few old pieces of furniture at my parents house with nail polish on them that could use this treatment haha :)
ReplyDeleteAhhh this post was right up my ally! I've loved the cozy dark black too, but have been longing for "the light side of life".
ReplyDeletePresto chango: my buffet goes from black to distressed cream. Yay for lighter colors!
